Co-Founder and Director

Shruti is a social work consultant by profession, and now works full time with GFI. She has a Masters degree from Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) and has worked with various organizations in the past in pursuit of her passion for bringing about change in the social development sector. This helped her co-found GFI with Sanjiv Kapoor in 2013.

Shruti graduated from St Xavier’s College, Kolkata with a degree in Political Science and prior to that completed her schooling from Modern High School, Kolkata. She is an enthusiastic gardener and enjoys road travel and exploration.


Co-Founder and Advisor

Sanjiv, who co-founded GFI with Shruti Ghose, is the Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer of Vistara (Tata and Singapore Airlines). Sanjiv’s primary goal was to create awareness and a call to action by appealing to both pride and shame, and thereby change public behaviour.

Prior to joining Vistara, Sanjiv led SpiceJet through its unprecedented recovery and turnaround as its COO and de facto CEO from November 2013 until October 2015.

Sanjiv’s previous employers include Bain and Company, Temasek Holdings of Singapore, BCG (the Boston Consulting Group), and Oracle Corp.

A native of Kolkata where he did his schooling at La Martiniere, Sanjiv received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and his BA in Computer Science from Dartmouth College, USA.


Director

Sonia is a marketing professional with more than 30 years of experience advising global clients on strategy, based on data driven insights. She has worked with international agencies like Nielsen and Innate Motion across diverse geographies, and is passionate about decoding cross-cultural consumer behavior. Her more recent exposure to ‘purpose branding’ concepts fuelled a desire to help progressive companies bring sustainability to the core of their business model and branding. Joining Garbage Free India as a Director since 2016 has provided her the perfect platform to use her professional skills for social impact.

In her leisure moments, she enjoys reading, watching movies and exploring new destinations.


Director

Upasna is a Software Consultant with more than 25 years of experience with Oracle Financials. She has worked with Oracle in the US and then as in Independent Consultant with Oracle customers across the globe. She has a dual degree from BITS, Pilani in Computer Science and Economics. Prior to that, she did her schooling from La Martiniere, Kolkata. She moved back to India three years ago after having lived away for 23 years in the US, Singapore, and London. Passionate by her desire to make a change, she joined Garbage Free India as a Director in 2017 and is based in the Delhi NCR area.


Director

Chitra is a Graduate from St.Xavier's college Mumbai and a Post Graduate in Advertising and Communication from Xavier Institute of Mass Communication. She has more than 25 years of experience in Executive Search and HR. She has a keen interest in all things related to the environment and sustainable practices, which has led her to join Garbage Free India in 2015, as a volunteer and later as a Director in 2017. Her hobbies are Music,Craft, and Reading.


Digital Lead

Kabeer is a management consultant who specializes in eCommerce. He graduated from Tufts University with a BSc in Psychology and a double minor In Chinese and Entrepreneurship. Kabeer helps manage GFI's online content, and spends his free time running and supporting Manchester United.


Content Lead

Ailsa is an e-commerce marketing professional with experience in e-commerce campaigns, content development and social media advertising. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in MA, USA with a degree in English Literature and Journalism. As a digital consultant at GFI, she manages content and audience engagement across online channels. Ailsa’s interests are vocal training, dinosaurs and her dog Pronto.


GFI Mentor

Kavita is a graduate from the Women’s Christian College in Chennai and has completed her schooling from The Holy Angels Covent (Chennai)  She manages the Finance  and Operations  of her family owned shipping  business. Kavita is a keen home composting enthusiast and enjoys pursuing her art interests. She is a Socho Alag champion encouraging her friends and family to join the movement.


Program Lead

Kritika Matolia is an environmentalist and educator with a Masters degree in Social Work and teaching experience with Teach for India. They had the drive for positive environmental action since a young age and they started following a zero-waste lifestyle 3 years back, which means that they only buy less than 1% unavoidable things in packaging, compost all their wet waste and follow conscious buying and eating habits. They try to beat their own zero-waste goals and lead a minimalist lifestyle. In their free time, they love to sketch, make zero-waste home essentials, learn new things, listen to podcasts, read and watch movies.


Community Engagement Mentor

Priyanka Sarkar comes with a Masters degree in Social Work and bachelor's in science field. She has previously interned with Coal India. After joining Garbage Free India, she started following zero-waste lifestyle and spreading it with her friends and family. She is a pet lover, a foodie, and loves to cook and fulfil her wanderlust. She is currently enjoying her new hobbies gardening, and composting.
