Lotus Rescue Community Project, West Bengal
In West Bengal, we collaborated with Lotus Rescue, a local NGO based in Kolkata, working with women and children. This project ran for over a year, from October 2020 to December 2021. We trained teachers from all their centres to implement our Environmental Learning Program.
Some of the GFI-led activities in Lotus Rescue centres around the year were:
-
Environmental Learning Program: Modules and workshops with educators and children
-
Waste Management: Initiating composting, upcycling and recycling of plastic through Green Pari
-
Eco-friendly distribution of mid-day meals: Shifted from disposable plates to steel plates
-
Commemorated various environmental days at learning centres to create awareness and ignite action
-
Initiated kitchen gardening and composting activities in a few centres
-
Awareness towards reduction of plastic usage at centres
-
Weekly Friday Clean-Ups: Around centres and surrounding areas
-
Using art as a medium for social change
They are continuing with awareness and weekly cleanliness drives. We look forward to collaborating with them in the future to help bring about a comprehensive waste management solution in the community.
This project was funded by Kolkata Calling and individual donors.
